Tweezers

There are generally three types of tweezers you can buy; a pointed tip, a slanted tip or straight tip.  There are many different uses for each one and can have a variety of features such as Easy-to-grip handles, stainless steel, enamel finish, built in magnifying glass, automatic tweezers, and many more.  Prices can range any where from $.89 to $45.00.

Tweezers with a pointed tip are more for ingrown hairs, stubbles, and bristles.  These are also good for getting things out that have been lodged into the skin such as ticks, thorns, and slivers.   If you are someone who faces ingrown hairs often, it is good to have some of these lying around.

Tweezers with a slant are designed to get excess amounts of unwanted hair out—widely used for eyebrows.  It provides an easy grip at the end to help grasp those little hairs.  These are good for plucking large amounts of hair for instance when shaping the eyebrows or doing a weekly pluck.

Straight-tip tweezers are good for gripping individual hairs located anywhere on the body.  They have an easy grip tip to firmly grasp the hair.

Basic Tips When Using Tweezers:

  • Take a hot rag and press firmly onto designated area of skin to open the pores.  This will make it a less painful experience.
  • Always tweeze in the direction of the hair growth.  It will make it less painful.
  • Tweeze the hair slowly instead of quickly plucking.  It will make the hair grow back slower there requiring fewer tweezing sessions.
  • When shaping your eyebrows, use concealer to draw the desired shape and pluck and hair that does not fall into that concealer line.
  • Never tweeze hair from your nose or moles.
  • To avoid slipping of tweezers, never use moisturizers before hand; however, it is a good idea to use a moisturizing cream after tweezing to keep skin from becoming red or cracking.
  • Be sure to step back from the mirror every-so-often to make sure you aren’t plucking too much.
