Finally I was right! Taylor Hicks won American Idol last night, beating out the beautiful and talented Katharine McPhee. I can’t really talk about his hair or makeup, though, so I’m at a loss!
My favorite part of the show was Carrie Underwood’s appearance and performances. She demonstrates how far an Idol can go in one year. She just returned from the Academy of Country Music Awards where she won best new female artist and best single for her song, “Jesus Take the Wheel.”
Overall, this was my favorite season of American Idol. Maybe it’s just me, but it seemed less political and vicious than previous seasons. This year, it was all about the talent of the performers, and there was some amazing talent. I still regret loosing Mandisa and Chris, though.
The one part about the show that bothers me is that 63 million people voted last night to pick the new American Idol. That is more votes than any president of the United States has ever received. It just seems ironic to me, since who becomes president will have much more impact in peoples’ lives than who wins American Idol. Oh well, what can you do? People will vote for what they care about and are interested in.
