Spring Skin Care Tips

An article on Yahoo today gave some great skin care tips for spring, so I thought I would pass them along. Skin care is critically important to having healthy, vibrant skin, so here are some tips to keep in mind.

1. Don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun’s rays! I know, I know, everyone wants to be tan, and now that it is warming up and getting sunny, not only do you want to spend time in the sun getting tan, but you want to be tan for the spring and summer wardrobe that is coming out. But keep this in mind: too much exposure to the sun damages your skin and can lead to wrinkles, aging, and skin cancer. So before you go out to enjoy a day in the sun, apply sunscreen. Also, avoid the going out in the sun during high intensity hours, which are 10 am to 4 pm. The sun’s rays are particularly strong during those hours. And last, but not least, wear clothing that protects your skin. You don’t have to wear long sleeves all summer, but try a hat to shade your face.
2. Don’t smoke! I didn’t know this one, but the article I read says that smoking accelerates the skin aging process, so just don’t do it.
3. Cleanse your skin gently. Treat your skin delicately, especially on your face. Some quick tips: don’t use harsh soaps, pat your skin dry, and don’t use products with perfumes or dyes because they can irritate the skin.
4. Don’t forget to moisturize! Most of us are pretty good about moisturizing after we cleanse our face, but don’t forget your other skin too! Especially after shaving, don’t forget to moisturize your skin.
5. Speaking of shaving, be careful when you shave. Never shave dry skin, as this will lead to irritation. Always use a sharp razor and shave in the direction of the hair growth.
