Preventing Split Ends

We all hate split ends, and I hope we all realize that once we have split ends, they can’t be cured, except by a haircut. So the trick is to prevent split ends from ever forming. So how do you do that? What steps can you take to make sure that you will never have to deal with split ends again?! Well, here are some tips to keep your ends from ever splitting again!

1. First of all, if you have split ends, trim them off. You should get your hair trimmed every six weeks to keep it most healthy.
2. Don’t ever brush your hair when it’s wet. Also, use a comb and be gentle!
3. Go easy on heat styling products such as hair dryers, curling irons, and flat irons. This is by far the hardest one for me!
4. Try using conditioner first in the shower. Leave it on your hair for a couple of minutes and then continue with shampooing and conditioning as usual.
5. Always used coated or covered rubber bands.
6. Use a deep conditioning treatment once a month.
7. A satin pillowcase will help minimize tangles that can lead to split ends.
8. When you brush your hair, use a brush with smooth, wide-set teeth and never use nylon brushes.
9. Don’t blow dry your hair on high heat. I know it will take longer to get your hair dry, but your hair will thank you!
10. Try help prevent split ends by keeping your hair moist, mash an avocado and apply it to your hair. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse it out. For even better results, add hot olive oil to the avocado and apply it to the hair while still warm.
11. You can apply mayonnaise to your hair once a week in place of the avocado to still prevent split ends.
12. A good raw egg wash will also help to prevent split ends.
13. After your shower, don’t rub your hair dry. Pat dry instead.
