Today I want to step away from the buzz about famous actresses or models to pay tribute to one of television’s most recognized faces, Katie Couric. Katie announced this morning, on her 15th anniversary on Today, that she is leaving the show to become the first woman to solely anchor a network evening news program.
The team for Today has formed the most successful morning news program in history. Katie apparently turned down a $20 million offer from NBC to stay with Today and has accepted CBS’s $13 million offer to join their struggling news team. She will replace Bob Schieffer, who has been filling in since Dan Rather left CBS a year ago.
Not only is Katie a talented news reporter, she is also a beautiful woman. I have heard many women say, though, that they think there is something wrong with her makeup. Her foundation never seems to be the right color, and her eye makeup doesn’t work for her. Maybe she offended someone in makeup?
No matter what you think of her makeup today, it can’t be denied that she has come a long way since she first started in news. Granted, styles were different then, but I can hardly recognize Katie in this picture. 
It looks like she has lost a lot of weight. Of course, with her being such a major figure on TV now, she did have to clean up a bit. There was the charge in the New York Times that NBC was exploiting Katie’s legs to attract male viewers. Apparently they have to make sure she tans her legs before any interviews in skirts.
Since her husband passed away from colon cancer in 1998, Katie Couric has become interested in supporting the fight against cancer. In recent years, though, there has been increasing annoyance with the way she has transformed from a news anchor into a celebrity diva. She has also been accused of political bias in her interviews and reporting. On a lighter note, she does have great taste in shoes!
