Facemasks are a must for glowing skin, they open the pores and remove the dirt and built up oil. They are a great way to exfoliate skin and clear up blemishes. With so many skin care products on the market, finding the right face mask can get time consuming and pricey, here is a basic pore-cleansing mask that is made from items that can be found in your pantry. Try it; your skin will thank you! Here is the recipe:

honey face maskHoney Facemask:

2 Tbs Honey
1 tsp Lemon Juice
¼ tsp Cinnamon
¼ tsp Nutmeg

Warm up the honey until it becomes liquid, be careful not to get it too hot. I would recommend putting it in a glass bowl over a smaller bowl of boiling water, this way you have more control of the heat and the honey won’t burn. When it is nice and warm mix in the remaining ingredients until you have a fairly smooth paste. Once mixed, smooth the mixture on your clean face keeping the eye area clear. This mask smells and actually tastes great, so rub some on your lips for an extra soft pout! Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes; wash it off with warm water. I like to do this mask one or two time a week to maintain soft clean skin.

Facemasks are great for keeping the skin on your face youthful and glowing, but don’t neglect the rest of your skin. Here is a fabulous skin scrub that can be made right in your own kitchen. This sugar scrub will leave your skin feeling irresistibly soft, beware after using this you might become addicted. Here is the recipe:

home made lemon sugar scrubLemon Sugar Scrub:
½ C Sugar
¼ C Olive Oil
Zest of 1 lemon

Mix all of the ingredients together; the lemon gives it such a fresh scent, but if you don’t have a lemon any citrus fruit would have the same results. If you are looking for a deeper exfoliation you could replace the sugar with sea salt. Store in a small sealed container for up to three months. I like to just keep this in my shower so that I can exfoliate three or four times a week. This recipe also works well if doubled for a larger batch or wrap a bow around the jar and it is a great inexpensive gift idea!

We have been focusing on your skin, but what about your hair? Hair often gets dry and brittle and could use a little pick me up. Here is a deep conditioning treatment to help repair damaged hair. Here is the recipe:

Conditioning Mask
1 C Mayonnaise (room temperature)
½ C Olive Oil
3 Egg Yolks

Blend all of the ingredients in a bowl, and immediately apply thoroughly to your hair, paying extra attention to your ends. Once your hair is entirely covered in the mask, cover with a plastic shower cap. Let sit for at least 15-20 minutes, and rinse out. Do not shampoo your hair for at least 12 hours after the mask. This will make your hair super soft and shiny!
