You’ve heard them from friends, you’ve read them in emails, but are they really true? Beauty myths are almost as common as women’s desire to be beautiful, so let’s take the time to dispel some widespread misconceptions about beauty.

Antiperspirants cause cancer
There is no evidence or data linking the use of antiperspirants to breast cancer.

Shaving causes hair to grow back thicker
How much hair you have is genetic and is not affected by shaving, so don’t stress about keeping those legs smooth!

You can repair split ends
The only cure for split ends is to cut them off. There is a lot you can do to prevent split ends and keep your hair healthy, but once they are there, scissors are your only option.

Extra cleansing will get rid of acne
Scrubbing your face too much or too hard may aggravate your skin and actually cause more acne. Be gentle with your skin, but do take the time to wash it.

Always use one specific brand and don’t mix product lines
This rumor was started by makeup companies in an effort to help them make more money. It’s not bad for your skin to mix brands.

You can skip the sunscreen when it’s cloudy
UV rays, the part of the sunlight that is damaging to your skin, penetrate clouds so remember to apply sunscreen even it’s overcast.

Your diet can influence the appearance of acne
Eating chocolate and greasy foods doesn’t cause acne, but for your own health’s sake, it is best to eat these foods in small quantities.

Dry skin causes wrinkles
The sun is actually the main culprit when it comes to wrinkles. Wrinkles that aren’t caused by the sun are from common facial expressions, like smiling or frowning.
