Every woman needs to know what her skin type is so that she can be sure to buy products that are best suited to her needs. When you know the characteristics of the different skin types, it isn’t hard to determine which one you are. Here are the basic skin types:
Normal Skin
Normal skin can be classified as having an even a smooth surface. Normal skin is neither oily nor dry skin. It is a balance between oily and dry. Therefore, if you have a normal skin type, your skin will feel neither oily nor dry. Other characteristics of normal skin are a clear complexion, not visible pores, and it is relatively healthy looking. It also does not require special treatments or products.
Dry Skin
Dry skin has a very dull appearance and flakes very easily. Large amounts of moisturizer are needed to just get a smooth surface. Dry skin also tends to age faster and is more prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Dry skin can very often be very sensitive and get red and irritated easily. A good test to see if you have dry skin is to wash your face and don’t put moisturizer on for 30 minutes. If your skin feels tight and rough, then chances are that you have dry skin.
Oily Skin
Oily skin can be classified as skin that has an over secretion of oil and is constantly oily and shiny. Oily skin also is susceptible to dirt, black heads and pimples. A good test to see if you have oily skin is this: At about mid-day, get a piece of toilet paper and press it against your cheek. Leave on for about 15-30 seconds then pull away. If large amounts of dirt, makeup and oil are visible on the sheet, then chances are that you have oily skin.
Combination Skin
This is the most common skin type among women. Combination skin is usually oily on the forehead, nose and chin and is dry on the other parts of the face.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can be oily, normal or dry. The characteristic of this skin type is if the skin is constantly red and irritated from the environment or from different makeup products.
