Combination Hair

A common hair problem with women is greasy roots and dry tips. It reminds me of combination skin, oily in places, dry in others, so that’s what we’ll call it, combination hair. If you have had problems with combination hair and would like to know how to best care for that hair type, I have some tips for you!

The first important thing to know is that there is shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for this type of hair. Since this is my hair type, I can share with you some of the shampoos and conditioners I have found most helpful in caring for my hair. Garnier Fructis has a great product, Fresh Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner that treats hair with split personalities. Also, I have found that the classic clean type of shampoos work well with my hair. Moisturizing shampoos and conditioners tend to make it too greasy up top.

Lots of brands of shampoos have great classic clean types. I like to use Dove and Herbal Essences. Both of these are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased at almost any drug store.

If your roots tend to be really oily, only conditioner the lower half of your hair after you shampoo. This will give your dry ends the moisture they need while not over-moisturizing your roots.

Here are a couple of things you can try to add luster and shine to your hair without leaving any harmful or greasy substances in your hair. Rinse your hair with vinegar after you shampoo to add shine and remove soap residue. All you need is one tsp of vinegar mixed with one pint of water. A through rinsing with water will get rid of the vinegar smell. You can also squeeze the juice of two lemons and add it to a pint of water to make a great mix that cuts oil and adds shine.
