At Home Facials

Every woman wants to have beautiful skin, but not everyone has the time or resources to go to a spa every few weeks. The good news is that there are tons of different ways to give yourself an at-home facial that work well and that are great for your skin.

First, you need to know the steps for an at home facial. Start with pulling your hair off your face and securing it in a towel. Then, cleanse your face with whatever product you like best. While you are doing this, put some water on the stove to boil. Not too much, just a medium size pot about ½ full. When your face is washed, exfoliate your skin. We’ll review some fun at-home facial recipes in a minute.

After you have exfoliated, check the status of your water. Once it is boiling, remove it from the heat and put the pot on a towel on the table. Cover your head with a towel and steam your face over the pot for about 10-15 minutes. Don’t put your face too close to the water, or the steam will burn you. Let the steam open your pores and flush out toxins and impurities.

After you have steamed your skin, pat your face dry and use a toner to get rid of any leftover toxins on the skin. Never use anything with alcohol in it, since that will dry out your skin. Witch hazel makes a great toner.

Next, you want to apply a mask and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I’ll share some easy mask recipes in just a minute. Wash the mask off with warm water and pat your skin dry. Use toner again to remove any remaining impurities and then let your skin breathe some fresh air for a few minutes before you apply a moisturizer. That’s it! You’re done. At-home facials are best done every 4-6 weeks, but when you are first starting, you may want to do them as often as every 3 weeks.

So, as promised here are a couple of fun recipes for exfoliants and masks that you can make at home.

• To exfoliate your skin: Use dry short grain rice and rub it against your face for a few minutes. After that, mix 2 tbsp of cornmeal with just enough water to make a paste and rub this mixture on to your face in gentle circular motions. This is a great way to exfoliate.
• Avocados make a great mask. Mash up about half and avocado and apply it to your face. Let it dry on your skin and then rinse it off with warm water.
• Make a paste of mashed grapes and honey and apply it to your face. Leave it on for about 20 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.
• Another great mask is honey. Apply it to your face and leave for half an hour then rinse with warm water. Afterwards, rinse with cool water to close your pores.

There are tons of other great at-home facial recipes so feel free to share any that you particularly enjoy. I found a great site, Bella Bath, that has a lot of information about at-home facials. Check it out!

[…] 1. Start with your hair. To help moisturize your hair and heal damage, mix 1 tsp honey, 2 tbsp olive oil, and 1 egg yolk. Massage this mixture into your hair and leave for 30 minutes. 2. While your hair is sitting, start your facial. First, get some water heating and then cleanse your face. I recommend mixing 1 tbsp each of honey, olive oil, and sugar to use as a cleanser. It’s something different, and is great for your skin. After you cleanse your face, exfoliate. When your water is boiling, steam your face for about 20 minutes. 3. During this 20 minutes is a great time to also be doing your nails. Let them soak in olive oil while you are steaming your face. This helps nail and healthy and strong. 4. When the 20 minutes is up, use toner on your face to get rid of toxins and dead skin. Now, it’s time for a mask. Try mixing 2 egg whites with a few drops of lemon juice and applying it to your face. This will draw out any remaining impurities in your pores. Let this dry for about 5 minutes and then rinse it off. Use toner on your face again and then moisturize. 5. Now you can shampoo your hair to get out the egg mixture. 6. Once this is done, it’s time for a soothing bath. Add 3 cups of powdered milk and ½ cup honey to a running bath and enjoy! When you finish your bath, be sure to use body lotion to moisturize your skin. You can try using olive oil if you like, it’s a great moisturizer. 7. That about wraps up your night. Just as an added bonus, when you brush your teeth before going to bed, put some baking soda on the brush before your paste. Over time, this will whiten your teeth. […]
