Hair Care
Have you ever seen What Not To Wear? Well if not all it is really is a guy and a girl who get phone calls from people if they don't like the looks of their friends or family, like how the dress and stuff. So basically they throw out there whole wardrobe and give them a $5000 dollar shopping spree to buy on clothes and shoes and acceroies. After that they do their hair and makeup. Anyway this one episode they have a girl and she's dyed her hair a lot (like me exept highlight a lot)and the guy that does the hair has to cut off the damaged parts and re-dye it properly. I think that's what my hair needs. But what would you call that? I also wanted my hair layered and re-dyed again in April. Please tell me you get what I'm saying!!
I think I have heard of that show, but I've never seen it. I do understand what you're saying. I'm not sure there's a specific name for what you want done. I would just go to the salon and explain that you want layers and would like to be sure to trim off the damaged hair. As far as the coloring goes, do you usually color your own hair, or do you go to a salon? If you wait until April, that should be plenty of time for your hair prepare to be colored again. You might even consider going into a salon for a free consultation. You could explain what you are looking for, and see how possible it is. Again, sorry I don't know exactly what that is called, but I understood what you wanted when you explained it to me, so I am sure that I professional hair stylist will understand as well. Good luck!
My hair turned out great. But I still see some blond in my highlights. How long should I wait until I re-dye my hair the same colour? I was thinking in April is that long enough?
I'm so glad it turned out and that you like it! Waiting until April is long enough to re-dye your hair. It is recommended that you wait at least 2-3 months, and the longer the better!
Since I'm dyeing my blond hair light brown, what about my hair that's already brown? I just want it one colour, the colour it is at the top of my hair. But I'm afraid of making it lighter. Please help!
There are two things you should keep in mind as you color you hair this light brown color. First, the only real problem I have seen with hair color not turning out well, or going on evenly is when you are trying to color over hair that is partly bleached. That usually presents a problem. But since your hair is not bleached, right?, you should be ok. The second thing to think about is the different shades of brown. Is the brown in your hair right now darker than the brown you want to put in? I can see how that might present a problem. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to dye your hair a light color over a darker color. But if the browns are a similar shade, or if the brown in your hair right now is lighter than the brown you are adding, I think it will work well!
Since I'm dyeing my hair, won't I half to use a colour treated shampoo and conditioner? But I still have frizzy hair! My hair isn't dry, but it's just frizzy! Help!
What product do you use right now for your hair? Does it help control the frizz? Dove has a new line of shampoos and conditioners out that is for color treated hair and it sounds like it should be able to help with the frizzy problem as well. But that depends on how frizzy your hair is. The Dove shampoo is called Dove Advanced Color Care for Hair Colored Darker or Similar to its Natural Shade. I know it's a mouthful, but I love Dove products, and this set of shampoo and conditioner should leave your hair soft and smooth. It comes in a pink bottle, if that helps. Good luck!
I've think I'm going to go with light brown from Natural Instincts by Clairol. Is this a good product or choice?
That sounds like a great choice to me. I've never actually used that brand, but I've heard good things about it and the color sounds just right from what you've described. Let me know how it turns out!
I'm thinking of dyeing or highlighting my hair. But I don't know what to do. I have light brown hair on the outside of my air but on the inside it's dark brown. It's also dark brown at the top. The blond higlights I put in a while ago are slowly coming out. So it's a dirty blond on the outside layer, with dark brown on the inside layer, dirty blond at the bottom and dark brown at the top. My eyebrows are dark brown. So it doesn't really match. I heard you're suppose to stay close to your eyebrow colour. So I either want to dye my hair a brown shade or re-highlight it blond. But nothing red, black or too blond or too brown. Please help!
As long as it's been at least two months since the last time you had it
highlighted, I would recommend
dyeing your
hair brown. Since it matches your eye brows, you already have tried blonde highlights, and some of your hair is already brown anyways, it sounds like it will look great. That, and I have always loved brown hair, so I must admit that I have a weakness for recommending people go brown. Especially with it being
Fall with Winter right around the corner, I would go brown. Save the blonde highlights for spring and summer. But again, make sure that it has been at least a couple of months since you got your highlights, or else the brown dye might not color your hair evenly. The longer you wait between coloring your hair, the better. Oh, I'm so excited, I think your hair is going to look great! I love brown hair! I'm blonde, so I get jealous when women have gorgeous, dark, hair. Are you going to do this yourself, or go to a
salon? I agree with you that you don't want to go too dark brown. It's hard because I don't know what brand you will be using if you do color your own hair at home, but I am picturing something like Loreal Feria Underground Brown or Brownstone. Good luck!
A month ago, I moved to a new apt. complex. For the first time in 25 years (if ever), I now have *softened* water. I HATE IT! I have thin, fine light brown hair, and I keep it short, double-process highlighted, and it is cut into a style that really is low-maintenance, and keeps it looking much thicker. I'd get out of the shower, put a little root mousse, or some thickener, actually almost any good volumizing product, and I seldom had to do more than a 2 minute blow-dry with a diffuser, and a couple quick turns of the curling iron in the bangs. It fell right into place.
Now, it's flat, will not curl, holds none of its natural wave, and just sticks straight up after I dry it. The manager said the water-softener is only in the hot water, so I at least rinse it in cold water (every other day). But I'm very frustrated. I've asked at Sally's Beauty Supply, my hairdresser - I can find no products that exist to remove water softener from hair. Two gals in the Health Food Store said they have the very same problem, and have found no solution, so I know I'm not alone. HELP!!
Thanks much!
Marty
Well, Marty, I am having a hard time knowing what to tell you. Your hair is different now because it's missing all the minerals from the hard water and I am not aware of any products that add minerals to your hair. From the research I've been doing, it seems that soft water is better for your hair because you don't get the build-up and deposits of grime in your hair that you do with hard water. I don't know of and can't find any ways to unsoften your water or to reverse the affects of soft water. I am really sorry I can't be of more help, but I will keep researching this and let you know if I find anything!
Hey it's Kayla, I have wavy hair with a bit of curliness (curls), and I have dry ends at the bottom of my hair, and frizziness at the top and throughout my hair, and my hair is sort of puffy (not really I think it's more frizzy). I want it to be straight with no frizz, no curls and a few waves. I use Dove products for my hair do they have anything that could help my hair? If not, what should I use (any home remedies, products)?
Dove does have a few different products that work well to control frizz and curls. You can try Smooth and Soft Anti-Frizz Cream or Intense Frizz Control Cream. Also, I don't know what Dove shampoos and conditioners you are using right now, but from the way you described your hair, it sounds like you should be using Advanced Care Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner. It will help tame the frizz even more by adding extra moisture to your hair. Using all these Dove products together should help tame your hair and get you the desired results. But just for fun, here is one way to treat your frizzy hair from home. You can rub coconut oil in your hands and then apply it to your hair to tame frizz, but don't use too much or your hair will just look greasy. Good luck Kayla, have a great day!
My hair is naturally dark dirty blond and I have bleached the entire thing for about a year now, I then last week tried to go to a light brown to stop the all over bleaching but all the roots are orangy and the rest is greenish. My hair is now of course multi length to my chin. Can I re-lighten my hair? I have a lot of extensions I use but they were all blond. My hair is fairly thin too. I use a reconstructer a lot too. My hair is damaged, but I am too fair to go a dark brown to even it out that way.
I think it should be ok for you to re-lighten your
hair, but I would wait for at least two weeks from the last time that you
colored it. You have to be careful since you have thin hair and since it is already damaged. The color may be bad now, but it's better than all your hair falling out if you treat it too much! Just as a side note, dark brown hair with fair skin looks really great! But adding a darker color to your hair might not work right now over the orange and green, so I would go lighter for now (in a week or two, of course!) and then let your hair recover for a while before trying anything else. Good luck!
So. I have question about colouring my hair. It's quite urgent, because I need to know if I can do it in a few hours or after a month or so. It's not like I haven't dyed my hair before - that's exactly the problem. I've had so much done to my hair that my mom thinks it'll turn out orange if I go blond... again.
The story for the hair on me now is that it's been blond for a long time. My real hair colour is pretty dark and a bit grayish. In May I coloured it with a pretty dark brown 24-wash colour. After it washed out, I dyed again with the same shade. I went to a hairdresser, and came out with a permanent brown that can't be described blond or brunette (we didn't really understand each other...). It's been over a month. So - is it too early to bleach again? We're having our pictures taken for school tomorrow.
Well, if your
hair can't be described as brown or blond, I am assuming that it isn't very dark brown. In that case, and since it has been a month, you should be fine to bleach your hair. The minimum time you should wait before
coloring your hair again is two weeks, and since it has been over that, I would say that you should be safe. Good luck with school pictures!
Hi. i just got highlights in my hair at a salon and instead of the color that i asked for which was a chocolate brown shade the highlights were like a orangy brown shade and i think its too bright against my skin. My natural hair color is black. How do u think i can fade my too bright highlights fast before school starts? Which is in 6 more days. Please Help. Thanks! xx
Well, highlights usually have some sort of peroxide in them (that's how they lighten your hair), so you can't really fade them. You can try using a strong
shampoo to see if that will help fade the highlights. Also, I've heard of a product called the Malibu Treatment that is supposed to take all unnatural colors out of your hair, but I've never tried it. I think can buy it at some place like Sally Beauty. Also, you can go to a hairstylist and see if a chemical wash will be able to help you strip the color.
Hi im 13 and i use loreal anti dandruff shampoo but still i have little white flakes in my hair how can i get rid of this??
also do you know the average price in hairdressers for getting a layered cut...by the way i think making the new website wud be a great idea!
Thanks for your feedback! One great brand of
shampoo to try is
Tegrin. They are specifically designed to get rid of white flakes in your hair. Also, here are some fun home remedies to try for dandruff. Mix a spoonfull of lemon juice with two spoonfulls of vinegar and massage this into your scalp, then rinse it out with shampoo. Fresh lime juice, applied after your shampoo your hair, is also a great way to get rid of dandruff. As for the price of a hairdresser, depending on your budget, you can get a get layered cut from anywhere between $10-$40 at most
salons. I have tried a wide variety of places and here's what I've found. If you live in a city that has a hair school, like Paul Mitchell, you can get an appointment to have a student cut your hair and it is really cheap, usually around $10, but keep in mind that they aren't the most experienced. I've always had a good experience when I've tried this. Or you can go to a classic haircut place like Super Cuts or Fantastic Sams. In my experience, a layered cut at a place like this should run between $15 and $25. These should all include shampoos before the cut, by the way, and most include styling afterwards. If you want to spend a little more, you can go to a salon. I always get my hair cut at a local salon in our mall now, because they do my hair better than anyone I've been to. I usually spend between $35-$40 for a cut, but it also comes with a scalp massage, which I love! So there you go, you have a few options, and you can pretty much pay whatever you choose, depending on where you decide to go. Good luck!
I really want my hair cut shorter because now it is very long (half way down my back). im confused though because i dont want to regret it afterwards. i have a roundish face, very dark eyes, tanned skin and smallish lips. i want something a little different but still stylish. thanks x
It sounds like you've got a lot to work with, so that's a great start! With a round face, you want to keep your
hair off of your face. The goal is to create a
hairstyle that will add length to your face. You can choose to have short or long hair, either works well with round faces. If your hair is already half way down your back and you want to go shorter, I would suggest an above the shoulders cut, with layers. Layers, especially on top of your head, make your face appear longer and thinner. I would avoid bangs (remember to keep your hair off your face!), but lots of different layers, especially in the back, will look great. One look that is stylish right now, but isn't your typical
haircut, is the piecey, straight, choppy look with jagged ends and blunt cuts. I think it looks great and it sounds like it would be really flattering with your face shape. If you go with this look, cut your hair about chin length at the longest layer. Here's the link for my favorite picture of this hairstyle: http://hairstyles.free-beauty-tips.com/medium3.shtml. Good luck!
Hi me again it's Claudia I was wondering If you have any suggestions for hairstyle But, I'm talking about more like hairstyles, hairstyles not haircuts, like pony tails, braids etc... what more ideas do you suggest me??? I have bangs at the front of my face, but till chin lenght and my hair is a short round U at the back. u know just for school.. well hope to receive ur respond sone!!!!
Since you have short
hair, one great look is to flip the ends out and add lots of volume to the top of your hair. Side swept bangs are also really in right now, so instead of letting your bangs stay in front, sweep them to the side of your face and let them hang over one eye. Another great
hairstyle idea is to
dry your hair with a round brush and then clip part of your hair back. To get a great straight hairstyle with blunt, distinct edges, dry your hair with a flat paddle brush. One really cute style that I have seen a lot lately, especially with short hair, is two side ponytails, one just behind each ear. This looks fun and sporty on girls with short hair. I hope these suggestions help! Good luck!
Hey it's Kayla, when you said Suave was bad for your hair, that means hairspray to right?
No, as far as I am aware, Suave hairspray is not bad for your hair. It's just an ingredient in their
shampoo and
conditioner that is not healthy for your hair. Their hairspray should be fine!
Hi, I recently cut my hair into layers and it looks really nice but once you wash it it freezese up my hair is naturally wavy and I've tried to use all the products I can but none get ridd of my hair freezing what do you recomend me???
The best way to get the wave and frizziness out of your
hair would be to use heat. My hair does the same thing after I wash it. I have to
blow dry my hair with straightening product in it in order to get it to be smooth and flat. After you have dried your hair, you can also use a
flat iron to smooth out any remaining frizz. If your hair is really frizzy and won't calm down, you can get it chemically straightened. It's kind of like a
perm, only they use the chemicals to make your hair straight instead of curly. I would try lots of heat first, though. And be sure you are using moisturizing
shampoo and
conditioner. Often hair gets frizzy because it doesn't have enough moisture. Plus, with all the drying and straightening, your hair will need all the extra moisture it can get. Good luck!
Hey it's me Kayla again, I was also wondering, is Suave a good product for hair and body? I also have frizzy hair and split ends. Do you know any natural ways or not so expensive products I could use?
Suave is not very good for your hair. Their
shampoos and
conditioners contain ingredients that strip your hair of its natural oils. Their body products are fine to use, though. If you are looking for a good shampoo that is really cheap, you can try VO5, or Herbal Essences.
Herbal Essences is nice because it has more natural ingredients.
Dove is another really good brand, but it costs a litte bit more. Good luck Kayla!
Hi, actually I've got straight hair but my problem is that I have been making plaits since quite a long time and now it seems as my hairs are curly and I don't like it. Can you suggest me a way how I can get my straight hair back!
Well, there are chemicals that you can use to straighten your
hair. It is like getting your hair
permed, only they use the chemicals to straighten your hair instead of creating curls. If you don't want to pay that much money, you can buy products that straighten curly or frizzy hair. Heat also helps to straighten hair, so use a
blow dryer to get the curls out! Best luck!
Hey my name is Hailey, I have naturally curly hair and it's long too. Every time I try to blow dry my hair it goes crazy!!!! It just frizzes and poofs right up and then I have to end up straightening it which takes forever. Is there any really good products that could help me??
One product that I have heard works wonders with curly and frizzy
hair is Biosilk hair serum. Now, keep in mind I haven't tried it because I don't have curly hair (I am so jealous, I've always wanted my hair to be curly!). But the people who I know who have used it have loved how soft and manageable it makes their hair. You can put it in your hair and
blow dry for best results! Good luck Hailey!
I would love to have the same hairstyle as Jennifer Aniston but I can never find a picture of how her hair looks or any celebrity in the back, only a front view of the style. How do you think her hair is cut in the back???
I love her
hair as well! The best I could find was a shot of the side of her head. You can kind of see what the
haircut looks like in the back. It looks like she has shorter layers cut into her long length that start at about chin length to create a rounding effect in back. Here's the link for the picture of her hair. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/entertainment/2006-08/06/content_657975.htm. Good luck!
Hola! I am 14 and I have extremely frizy hair! I have tried several things but none of them work! I spent all my money on these items...so if you have any suggestions that won't cost me hardly anything... well I would really apreciate it!
Thanks!!
The important thing to remember with frizzy
hair is that it tends to be dry, so always use moisturizing
shampoo and
conditioner. Another way to help control frizzy hair is to use Velcro rollers. Put the rollers in your dry hair and
blow dry with them in. Another thing I have heard is excellent is to use Biosilk hair serum and then blow dry your hair and
flat iron it if necessary. If you already have a hair dryer and flat iron, those will be your most effective tools for calming your frizzy hair. Just be sure to use that moisturizing shampoo and conditioner because all the heat will dry your hair right out!
I sprunch my thick hair all the time but I just get waves that flatten really easy. For a girl that has very little time in the mornings but wants curls really bad whats your advice? P.S. Just a senctence would be great!
Well, one thing that I like to try is to shower at night and then while my hair is still damp, put it up in a bun and sleep like that. In the morning, pull it down and apply a scrunching product of your choice and scrunch! Here's a tip for applying product to your
hair: don't apply it to the roots (unless it's a spray) because it will weigh your hair down and pull out the curl. Also, don't apply product to dripping wet hair because it will drip out with the water. Sorry, I know this was longer than one sentence, but I tried to be a brief as possible! :) Oh, and if you want more curls that badly, I would consider a
perm!
Hi. I'm a 16 year old girl. I've pretty much dyed my hair many colours. Recently I tryed bleaching my hair. I bleached it twice and decided all blonde hair wasn't my thing. Later on that same day I dyed it two times with a dark brown. My hair still isn't the colour I want and it's very fried. I need help on what I can do to calm it down and make it not so frizzy! Also do you think I should cut the ends because they kind of break off. And they feel really bad. I flat iron my hair every day and my bangs won't seem to go down anymore either. Basically I need a lot of help!
It sounds like you have done a lot of damage to your
hair recently. The best thing you can do is to let your hair recover from all the chemicals for a while. I wouldn't
color your hair for at least three more months, and I think
trimming the ends is a great idea. That really is the best way to get rid of damaged ends. As far as the friz goes, and the
flat ironing, you will have to use a very moisturizing
conditioner to keep your hair healthy. You may want to try a leave in conditioning spray as well. A product that is specifically designed for use with heat styling would be preferred. Also, if you
blow dry your hair and flat iron it, here's a little trick to help it be more healthy. Take a shower at night, so in the morning, your hair is still slightly damp. Then, you don't have to give it as much heat to get it dry. Good luck!
Hi, I just got a perm less than 24 hrs ago. I work in a dental office as an assistant. I have constant spray and spatter in the air which goes into my hair. For infection control purposes would I be alright to use a shampoo that does not contain alkaline or other chemicals. I have some shampoo and conditioner by Loma which is professional and is natural. Would this be okay to use or must I wait the full 48 hrs as recommended.
It should be fine for you to use the natural shampoo on your hair, especially if you wait 24 hours since you got the perm. The first 24 hours are the most critical, so you should be fine after that to use a very gentle shampoo on your hair. Have a great day!
I had my hair permed about two weeks ago. How soon can I color it?
I would recommend waiting for at least two months to
color your hair, for the health and protection of your hair.
Perming and coloring
hair too close together can damage hair and may even cause it to fall out!
Hi, I have thick black wavy hair which is very dry and difficult to manage and my hair tends to be so dry and frizzy. Can you suggest products that I can use to make my hair straight and smooth with that sleek look. I have purchased a Nicky Clarke straightening iron but I am unsure what else I should use. It's been months since I purchsed it but I am soo afraid that using it might damage my hair. Please help me, I have a very important party coming up in my family and I want to look my best. Please.
The first thing I would suggest would be to use a moisturizing
shampoo and
conditioner if you aren't already. Also, do a deep conditioning treatment once a week. To help control any excess frizz, use products with silicon. Some products that I have tried and love are
Dove,
Aveda, or
Paul Mitchell. It should be fine for you to use your
flat iron to straighten your hair. Yes, heat is damaging to your hair, but if you are keeping your
hair healthy, it can afford to be straightened with a flat iron. I would recommend not using both a
hair dryer and the flat iron. Let your hair air dry and then use the flat iron to control the frizz. Good luck!
Hi. I went from natural dark brown to dye yellow blond. I didn't like the results. It looks orange blond, how long do I have to wait to die my hair black? Please email me back, I need help real bad...
For best results, you need to wait three months between
hair coloring jobs. Otherwise your hair could be severely damaged. It might start to fall out, or it could turn an even worse color. I know it's no fun to wait when you don't like your hair color, but do your best to be patient! Good luck!
Hi , my name is Jessica and I am 17 years old and I'm tring to find a haircut that would look great on me but I'm not sure what would because I have a long square face and I don't really like short hair so if you could help me and tell me what kind of haircut you think would look best on me please e-mail me back some tips.
With a long face you don't want to have too long of
hair because it will make your face seem longer. But since you don't like short hair, I would recommend going with a shoulder-length
cut with layers. Layers work really well for long and square faces, because it makes long faces seem shorter and square faces seem more round. You could even do sweeping side bangs, which are huge right now and would look amazing with your face structure. Good luck!
My hair smells like wet dog after I received a perm, help! What can I do to get rid of this smell? Thank you so much!
Perm chemicals definitely don't smell good. It's the ammonia that is causing it to smell that way. To get rid of the smell, either use an acid based product, or try rinsing it with tomato juice, unless you have blonde hair. Apply the tomato juice and leave it on for 10-20 minutes and then rinse it out and
shampoo as usual. If you have blonde
hair, the coloring in the tomato juice might stain it, so you will have to buy tomatoes from the store and make them into juice in a blender. Be sure to peel the tomatoes first, since the skins have natural dyes in them. Good luck!
My daughter and I are about to color and highlight our hair. We had professionals do it before. My hair was last done before Christmas and I had primarily a head of gray hair. I colored it blonde with highlights and the roots really don't show beause it blends in so well with the gray. We each bought hair color we want to be the main color. Mine is a very light blonde and I was wondering if instead of recoloring all of my hair would it be feasable to simply just do highlights with my color. We're using caps to pull hair through. My daughter suggested my coloring my hair completely and then using her darker blonde for the "highlighting". If I do, how should I go about it? Color, rinse and highlight immediately ?
Well, you could do either. You could use your color as just a
highlight instead of
coloring all the hair. Or you could color your whole head with your color and then use your daughter's color for highlights. Yes, do the color first and then
dry your hair before you start with the highlights. Sounds like it will look great!
My sister has naturally light brown hair, that she has dyed using a Feria reddish dye for about 3 months now (dyeing it about once a month). She would like to grow her hair out -- it is quite short right now. When her hair is long she doesn't want it to be this reddish, orangish, purplish color that is has become. She would ideally like it back to its natural color. How would you recommend getting it back to its original color? She has tried dyeing it brown at home, but the color does not take. Can a professional get the color out, or make it so that it looks more natural?
She may need to give her
hair some time before she tries to
color it again. The brown won't take over the red right now, but if she waits for a few weeks, and uses a stripping
shampoo to try to get rid of the color, the brown will have a better chance of staying. If that doesn't work, she might need to bleach all the color out of her hair and start over. A
professional would be a great person to talk to, because she could give your more specific advice when she sees your sister's hair. Good luck!
Hey, I just dyed my hair black and red and I really don't like it AT all and my mom was wondering if I can dye it medium to dark brown or dye it a dark red and get highlights but will it turn green or will it cover up the black and red??
Black is a hard, if not impossible color to cover up, but the good news is that is usually fades quickly. I would recommend leaving the black in for a couple of weeks and letting the color fade to a dark brown. My friend had this same experience. She just had to
wash her hair lots of times and wait for the black to tone down. Now it is a beautiful dark brown. The only other way to cover the black is to bleach your hair and then
redye it, but this would be incredibly damaging to your
hair (a dye, a bleach, and another dye that close together). I know it's not what you want to hear, but I think the best thing is to wait two weeks. And then if you still don't like it, try the bleach. Two weeks is the minimum you should wait anyways before you color you hair again, and three months is preferred. Good luck!
Hey. Last night I dyed my hair black and red and I can't even go out side because I hate it so much and I was wondering if I try to dye it medium brown will it turn out ok?
I don't think the brown will show up over the black, without bleaching your
hair first and I wouldn't recommened doing that because it will be very damaging. I would suggest trying to fade the black out by
washing it frequently over the next few days. Black is the
color that fades the most easily. After a couple of weeks the black may be light enought that you can dye over it, or maybe it will be light enough that you like it. Good luck!
My friend bleached my hair about a month ago and its driving me crazy the way it looks. Before it was dark brown but now the top is kind of bleach blonde with some orange/yellow in it and as you get to the bottom it's still a little brown. We ran out of bleach when we did it so I didn't cover all my hair but basically it's a million different shades of like everything. I went to a salon about 2 weeks ago and she said dye wouldn't take right now but I just want to know how much longer I should wait to dye it? And if I try a darker color will that work? I mean anyway I can get it to one color I'll be happy and hopefully soon and if not how long should I wait? Tips? Thanks!
The best amount of time to wait is three months. Since it has already been one month, I would suggest waiting at least one more month, especially since your stylist said that
color wouldn't take right now. If you try to color over it too soon, you could end up with green or more orange hair. The hard part about putting one color over all your
hair is that it will take differently to the many colors you have now, so it won't all look the same. So you can either rebleach all your hair to get it to one color and then color over it, or just take your chances and color it one darker color and see how it takes. Either way, I would wait for about a month. Good luck!
I have bleached highlights in my hair done about a month ago and I want a perm. Is it ok to do that now?
It is best to wait as long as possible between
highlighting and
perming your
hair, since both are very damaging because of the strong chemicals they use. If it has been one month, I would recommend waiting for one more month before getting the perm. That way, your hair can have more time to heal from the highlights.
I have just found out I'm pregnant and I want to dye my hair to my natural hair colour so I don't have to worry about it. My hair is bleached and very dry and I want to go light brown. I have bought a couple of colours that say you can use them after bleach but all the strand tests go orange or grey. I can't afford a hairdresser. What make and colour would you reccomend I can put on it?
There are a lot of different opinions on
coloring your hair when you are pregnant, and some people suggest that you avoid it, for both the baby's health and because the color may turn out funny because of your hormones. That may be why the color tests are turning out funny colors. Also, it is difficult to color over bleached hair, so that could be part of the problem. It is important to note that doctors suggest that you should not color your hair during your first trimester. If you do want to color you hair, I would suggest either Revlon or Clairol. They both have great products that aren't too bad for your
hair.
I am thinking of getting a perm because my hair is long and really flat. I want to have loose big volumous curls. Do you have any sugg. on what kind of perm to get??? Thankz
I think
perms look amazing on long hair! For
hair longer than six inches, a spiral perm is usually needed to get all the hair curled. And, the bigger the size of curlers used for the perm, the looser the curls. So I would recommend a spiral perm with large rollers for a great look with big, loose curls!
I just rinsed my hair brown, but I want it lighter. Is it ok to mix two different types of rinses, expecially when one requires heat and the other doesen't?
Rinses can't lighten
hair, they can only darken it by depositing more color into your hair. They have no peroxide or ammonia, so they can't lift color. If you want to lighten your hair, you will have to use
hair dyes, which are much more damaging to your hair. That being said, it probably wouldn't hurt to mix hair color rinses, since they generally only last for three to four
shampoos anyways. But if you want it lighter, all you have to do is wash it out over a couple of days, and then start again.
Will my hair fall out if I dye it five days after I permed it?
Some people do have trouble with hair falling out if they use too many chemicals on it in too short a period of time. I can't predict whether or not this will happen to your
hair, but I would recommend waiting for a few weeks before you
color your hair, just to be safe. Plus, your hair will be more healthy this way.
I JUST PERMED MY HAIR FIVE DAYS AGO AND I'M WONDERING IF IT'S OK TO DYE IT NOW.
It is always best to wait as long as possiblew between
perming and
coloring, because the chemicals used for both are very damaging to your hair. I would recommend waiting for a few weeks, to let your hair recoup after the perm.
What is a good shampoo,(reasonably priced),that gets out product, and that I could find at Wal-mart?
One brand that I have used and loved was
Dove. I was having problems with product in my hair as well, and when I switched to Dove, my hair became healthy and soft. I've used both their moisturizing and volumizing
shampoos and
conditioners and have been pleased with both.
My mother-in-law has found a haircut and color that looks good on her... and remains complimentary throughout the years. Do you have any ideas on how to find the right haircut and color for me?
The best way to find a great
hairstyle is to know your
face shape and then determine what
haircuts looks good with that shape. To do this, pull your hair off your face and, standing about one foot away from a mirror, trace your face on the mirror with lipstick. There are generally five face shapes, round, heart, long, square, or oval. Once you know your face shape, you can look online or in magazines to determine what haircuts will look good on you. In terms of
color, find a shade that works well with your skin tone.
I colored my hair at home in November and hated it (it came out reddish), it's now May... I know I'm okay to color and/or highlight whenever, but I'm not sure what to do to get rid of the red. I wouldn't mind going back to a light brown with highlights. Is that doable at home, if so how? Or do I have to go to a salon?
Also, I want my hair straight again. Since having my second child, my hair is straight in the front and curly/wavy in the back. I want to straighten it... and I did it a long time ago myself by just buying a perm and combing my hair whilst perming it but can I do all these things at the same time? How long should I wait between coloring and straightening, if I have to wait at all?
To be on the safe side, I would go to a
salon if you are able.
Coloring over red can be difficult, especially if you are wanting to cover it with lighter colors. If you try to do it at home, you could end up with a color you weren't expecting, since it may not take well to the red.
Both coloring and straightening your hair are very damaging, so doing them to close together could be bad for your hair. If, however, your hair is relatively healthy, it should be fine for you to do them both.
Hello,
My name is Shelley. About 4 weeks ago I got semi-permanent hair color put on my hair but in 2 weeks I am going back to the salon and I wanted to know if I can now put permanent color on my hair in the next 2 weeks which will be 6 in total.
It should be fine for you to put a permanent dye over your semi-permanent. Especially if it will have been six weeks.
Semi-permanent hair dyes are only supposed to last 4-8 weeks anyways. As long as you aren't putting a semi-permanent dye over a permanent dye, it should work really well!
Is it ok to dye my hair even if I have spots around my hair line?
Are the spots natural, or are they left over from another hair
coloring job? If they are just natural color spots, it should be fine to color over them, but just to be sure, I would ask a
professional stylist. The last thing you want is to have orange spots around your face!
I'm black and I recently allowed my hair stylist to highlight my hair. She told me they were going to be light brown or auburn, but instead, she bleached it and they turned out blonde... very blonde. The rest of my hair is sandy brown so now I look like a bumble bee. Three weeks later she put a brown rinse in my hair and it turned the highlights reddish brown. Now.. I just got a perm and the highlights look red. Prom is in two weeks and I need my hair to be one color. My natural color. What am I going to do? Please help me.
It sounds like you have done a lot to your hair in the past few weeks. I don't know that you should do anything else to it, it may already be too damaged. The best thing you can do is ask a
professional stylist if there is a
color they can add to your hair that will cover the red highlights without changing them to another color or completely ruining your
hair. Good luck!
How long should I wait to wash my hair after having it highlighted?
Can you chemically remove bleached blonde hair??
You can't remove bleached blonde hair, because bleach lightens the natural pigments of your hair. You will need to
color over the bleach in order to cover it up, but this can be tricky. When you darken over bleached hair, as I assume you want to do, these pigments need to be put back in. Normal colors are formulated with the idea that they'll be put over hair that contains some pigment. If it is not so, the resulting color is often not what is desired. Most colorists will use several tints in succession, to replace the pigments that have been bleached out. The process is called "filling" the hair. (Fillers are nothing more than normal tints). Don't try to do this at home; get professional help from a
stylist!
I just dyed my hair tiwce and I hate it. I can't even leave the house. What should I do? Is it ok to dye it again?
If you've already dyed your hair twice, I would be cautious about
coloring it again so soon. The two main things you need to be worried about are the third color coming out orange or green from too much coloring, or your hair being too damaged. If you are willing to take the chance on these, then go ahead and try coloring it again. But be careful!
I dyed my hair about 3 weeks ago and I really need a perm. How long should I wait?
Both
perming and
coloring are very damaging to your hair, but if you have
healthy hair, it should be safe for you do perm your hair now. If your hair is dry and damaged from the coloring, you may want to wait a couple of months before you perm it.
I dyed my hair about 3 weeks ago and I really need to dye my hair. How long should I wait?
It is best to wait about three months, but in an emergency, it doesn't have to be that long. Make sure you go to a professional, because
coloring over recently colored hair at home can turn into a disaster! As long as your hair isn't too damaged, you can go ahead and color it again right away.
I am a natural blonde and have been my whole life. I just dyed my hair brown but it turned out a lot lighter than I wanted. How long do I have to wait until I can dye it again to get it darker?
I had a friend that just had this experience. You should be able to put darker colors in it right now, but be careful. My friend's hair turned out black! It
washed out to be dark brown after a few days, so you should be ok. She was using
semi-permanent dye, though, so if you are using permanent, don't do anything too drastic.
Hi. I went to a salon to get side bangs, but they gave me wide side bangs and they are shorter than the rest of my hair and it turned out badly. Do you have any suggesions to fix my bangs so they aren't so wide looking? Do you have any way I can put my hair with out showing the wideness in the bangs? Thanks!
Well, the good thing about hair is that it grows! Here's a trick you can try for bangs that are too short;
blow dry them straight down and then sweep them to the side. Then secure them back with a hair clip or bobby pin. I've seen a lot of cute
hairstyles with bangs clipped to the sides. Try that until they grow out long enough to sweep to the side on their own. Good luck!
I just dyed my hair and it looks horrible. I used the Loreal permanent hair dye. I dyed it extra bleach blonde from a sandy blonde color hair. I don't know how long I should wait to dye it over to my old color. It says to wait 3 weeks but I can't wait that long! Please help me.
You can either wait for the three weeks, or, according to Loreal's website, you can touch up the
color with a darker shade of the same brand. Be careful doing this though, you don't want your
hair to turn green.
Loreal has a personalized phone line you can call to get specific hair advice if you are still unsure. Call 1-800-631-7358 to get tips from a hair color expert.
Hi. I dyed my hair last week and I want to know how long should I wait until I can get a perm. Thanks!
Well, both
perming and
coloring are very damaging to your hair, but if you have healthy hair, and it's not too damaged from the coloring, you can probably go ahead and get the perm now. Just be sure that once you do, you are using
shampoo and
conditioner designed for color treated hair.
I got my hair highlighted, then the next week I got it highlighted more because it wasn't light enough. The next day I dyed it blonde because my hair was too white from the highlighting. Now it's light orange, and I hate it. How long do I have to wait to dye my hair back to brown? Will it turn orange?
It's hard to say just what your hair will do, but there is a good chance that putting a brown over the
highlights and the blonde color will not turn out as you are hoping. It might go orange, or if there is any red in the brown you use, it might go pink. I would recommend waiting for at least a couple of weeks and
shampooing your hair frequently to try to tone down the orange color. Even then,
coloring brown over it will be risky. I would recommend going to a
salon!
What would you do if you had honey blonde in your hair and you put a 14k gold in your hair and it turned black?
Well, if you try to
bleach it out, you could up with orange hair instead of black. Try
washing your hair a lot to fade the color as much as possible, and use lots of
conditioner to keep it healthy. Then, I would suggest putting a lighter brown color over the black to try to lighten it up a bit. That hopefully won't turn your hair yellow or orange. I would wait a while before trying to put blonde back in it. Also, if you have the resources, visit a
salon and get professional advice and help to fix the problem. Good luck!
I dyed the bottom half of my hair pink about 6 weeks ago and now it's fading. I want to dye all of it black. But I'm not sure if it's too soon. My question is about how long should I wait after I dye my hair to dye it again? I dye it very often so I just want to be sure. Thank You.
Six weeks should be long enough to dye over your hair again. Especially if the pink is fading and you are going black. Keep in mind that
coloring your hair dries and damages your hair the more you do it, so be sure to use
shampoos and
conditioners that are meant for color treated hair. It is probably best to wait three months or so, but it isn't always necessary and in your case you should be fine.
Is Pantene Pro-V Scalp Therapy still available?
As far as I can tell, that product is off the market. It is no longer listed on
Pantene's website and I can't find any stores that sell it. Sorry!
How soon after coloring can I perm my hair?
If it's not an emergency, I would wait a month or two. Both
coloring and
perming are very damaging to your hair, so to do both of them too close together would really dry out your hair. Be sure that you are using
shampoo and
conditioner for colored treated hair, since that will help your hair recover and retain the color.
For the last five years I have sufferd with alopecia areata, since then I have been very careful with my hair and have never put anything on it. At the moment my hair is fine, and I would really like to have some highlights. Do you think highlights will affect my condition?
All of the research I could find on this issue suggests that
highlighting your hair will not affect your alopecia areata. So go ahead and do it! But it is good that you are working so hard to take care of your hair; keep it up!
Hey I just got blonde highlights put in my hair on Friday. I don't like how they look in my hair. Anyways I want to dye my hair so it's all dark brown again. I know these highlights will last 4-6 weeks, but I don't want to wait that long for them to go away. My question is do I have to wait a certain amount of time before I can go ahead and dye my hair? If so.. how long would I have to wait? I know back when I was in high school I had my hair professionally colored, and I tried to dye it back to dark brown a few days afterwards and I got no results. After about a month or two I tried again, and it worked fine. So I don't want to waste money buying hair dye if it's too soon for me to dye my hair after getting these highlights done.
If you
dye your hair over your
highlights, they will most likely appear lighter and/or brighter than the rest of your hair, but it is hard to predict. You may want to visit a
salon and have them give you a consultation to get a better idea. If you don't want to take the risk that the highlights will look strange when colored over, than wait the 4-6 weeks.
Should I wash my hair with shampoo immediately after coloring and before the conditioner?
If you colored your own hair at home, then follow the instructions on the box. Usually, it will tell you to
shampoo your hair immediately after
coloring until the water runs clear. After that, you should
condition. If you had your hair
professionally colored, it is best to wait 24 hours before you shampoo your hair.
I have hairy legs. It doesn't bother me actually. But they're curl and it makes my legs don't look good. How to straighten them away?
Well, I must admit that I don't know how to straighten leg hair and couldn't find any information on the subject. However, there are chemical hair straighteners for head hair and they would probably work on legs as well. You can buy hair straightening chemicals at the store. Just follow the directions on the box. If it is safe for your head, it should be safe for your legs. You will probably have to use some sort of
moisturizing body lotion afterwords. Good luck!
I am letting my bangs grow out and when I straighten them they always somehow end up in my face and flat. How can I prevent that?
When growing out bangs, you can either pull them back or sweep them to the side. My personal favorite is the sweeping to the side look. While your
hair is wet, comb your hair into that position, with your bangs swept to the side. When your hair dries, it will be more likely to stay in place! Also, remember to occasionally
trim your bangs (every four to six weeks) to make sure they stay healthy as they are growing out.
I always straighten my hair. Is there anything else I can do besides straighten it, put it in a pony tail, or put it up in a clippy?
I love curls, myself. Have you tried hot rollers? They can give fantastic loose curls to your hair! Other great
hairstyles depend on the length of your hair. Since you can put it in a pony tail, I am assuming you have long hair. Me too! Sometimes I use a
defuser on my hair, or often a
curling iron. Here's a fun tip from
Matrix: Begin in back and twist 2-inch sections tightly from scalp to ends, then wrap this hair around a medium size curl iron, hold in place until you can feel the heat. Twist and iron entire head. It sounds like it would take a long time, but the result is a head full of beautiful curls!
What do you do for split ends?
Here are some quick tips to keep split ends from getting worse: don't ever
brush wet hair, try to use a wide comb even on dry hair, don't use elastic bands in your hair since these cause split ends. Also be sure you
trim your hair often to get rid of any split ends. There are split end treatments that you can buy at the store, such as leave-in-
conditioners that should help. Be careful about
drying and
curling your hair, because extra heat cause split ends. Too much sun exposure also causes split ends. Really, the best thing to do it trim split ends and then try to keep your
hair healthy and moisturized.
My mom is in the nursing home and refuses to go to the beauty shop. Is there a shampoo I can use on her hair without water?
There is a brand called No Rinse Shampoo that is popular in hospitals and is relatively cheap, but I have never tried it. There are tons of other brands of
shampoo that clean hair without water. Another brand to try is Rinse No More shampoo. It is more expensive than No Rinse Shampoo. Again, I haven't ever tried waterless shampoo, so it is difficult to know what to recommend.
I dyed my hair on Friday, and it is not the right shade. How soon can I try to go lighter?
Well,
hair coloring does damage your hair, so it is best to dye it as little as possible, for instance, when your roots start growing out. But if you don't like the color, and need to go lighter, it is ok to re-color your hair now. It also depends on what kind of hair dye you used, permanent or semi-permanent. It might be better to just touch up the color with
highlights rather than re-dye all your hair.
I just got a spiral perm over the weekend and I love it. I had died my hair lighter months ago and the roots are horrible. I want to dye my hair back to its natural brown color. How long should I wait to dye my hair after getting the perm? Can you please tell me of any other advise or tips I should know? Thanks so much!!!
You'll want to be careful
coloring your hair too soon after
getting a perm. At least you permed your hair before you colored it! That is best. Both perming and coloring are very damaging to your hair and can cause dry or damaged hair. Check your hair to see if it is too dry. To do this, put a few strands of hair in some water. If they float, your hair is healthy and should be fine to color again. If they sink, your hair is dry and you might consider waiting to dye your hair brown.
How do I get my dull brown hair to look more like all of my friends sparkly happy blond curly hair? Can I do this with out damaging my tender roots?
I have found that really good
conditioners, not the cheap ones, will help protect your roots. As far as the
hair color, visit a
hair salon and get
highlights or even color your hair. But be careful, as this will damage your hair.
